Beginning August 21, students twelve and over will be able to receive their first dose of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines which arrived on the island on August 19.
Students will be able to receive their first shot of the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine beginning this Saturday, August 21, through to next Tuesday, August 24. This comes from Health Minister Dr. Christopher Tufton. He was speaking at a joint post Cabinet briefing, Thursday, August 19.
According to Dr. Tufton, the Ministry will be focused on children 12 years and older with co-morbidities and students ages 15 through 18 who are scheduled for face-to-face classes. Dr. Tufton says the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines are proven to be safe and effective for children to receive. He’s imploring parents to take their children to the various blitz sites.
In regards to rumors circulating on social media that there will be a 3-day lockdown, Dr. Tufton sought to refute these claims.
Meanwhile, schools are scheduled to resume on Monday, September 6. In the meantime, while parents had concerns about schools exempting un-vaccinated students. Education Minister Fayval Williams sought to clarify how the Ministry will approach the start of the new school term. Minister Williams, however, notes vaccinated students will be prioritized.
