Amid concerns surrounding the mass resignation of teachers, Prime Minister Andrew Holness says he is satisfied with the efforts of the Education Ministry to provide strategies and recommendations, that will ensure that the classrooms have enough teachers to meet educational standards.
Prime Minister Andrew Holness, says the Government of Jamaica views the developments of the resignation of teachers, as a potential threat and challenge to delivering quality education to children. He argues that there is very little the government can do to prevent the exercise of someone’s free will, to take up the opportunity of an advantage they would gain by migrating. Prime Minister Holness however says the government is giving the issue its direct attention, noting that there are several strategies in place to ensure that the classrooms have enough teachers to meet educational needs.
The Prime Minister further underscores scholarship programmes offered by the government. On Monday, Education Minister, Fayval Williams, says from July to August 22, 167 teachers handed in their resignations. Adding that the number may increase by September 5.
