PM Holness Announces New Curfew Measures

Prime Minister Andrew Holness has announced changes to the ongoing curfew and disaster risk management safety measures. Speaking in the Lower House of Parliament on Tuesday, November 16, 2021, Holness says a fourth wave is likely come January and most Jamaicans are likely to be impacted since vaccine hesitancy continues.

The news curfew measures come Thursday. November 18, will begin at 9 pm and lift at 5 am, one of several changes to the DRMA measures implemented by the Government. Currently the curfew times start at 8 pm and lift at 5 am daily.

Now 20 persons are allowed physically at a burial and funeral service up from 15 but a memorial service limit is based on church size but under 100. The gathering rule remains 10.

The Prime Minister says travelers to the island once fully vaccinated and presenting a negative PCR test will no longer be subjected to a 14-day quarantine. A suggestion long made by some social commentators and local experts.

Meantime, no escaping it Mr. Holness says with the high level of continued vaccine hesitancy, it is likely a fourth COVID-19 wave will hit the country in January.
