PM Holness Gives New COVID-19 Restriction Measures

Jamaicans will see an ease to the COVID-19 restriction measures, come Friday, October 29; this as the weekly no movement day on Sundays has been lifted. The announcement was made in Parliament on Tuesday, October 26, by Prime Minister Andrew Holness.

In the sitting of Parliament, Prime Minister Andrew Holness sought to provide an update regarding COVID-19 restriction measures set to take effect this Friday, October 29 through to December 9, 2021. Holness noted that the new curfew hours will be from 5 a.m to 8 p.m on Sundays through to Saturdays.

The Prime Minister says over a three weeks period, the Cabinet COVID-19 sub-committee meeting will however, be held with the Opposition to review the current measures. In the meantime, PM Holness notes the gathering restrictions will remain. Noting that the number of persons permitted to attend weddings, annual, general meetings and events hosted by public entities should have no more than 50.

Also, for entities in the public sector having events the vaccination status of attendees must be ascertained. The work from home directive will also remain in effect until December. The PM also announced the restrictions on funerals and burials.
