PM Speaks at “Let’s Connect” Virtual Town Hall in DC

This year marks the 60th anniversary of Jamaican Independence and 60 years of diplomatic relations with the United States. Prime Minister Andrew Holness engaged members of the diaspora at the Jamaican Embassy in Washington DC last evening through a town hall themed let’s connect with Foreign Ambassador Audrey Marks.

The prime minister discussed the development of a socio-economic model of cooperation with the US to promote prosperity for the island. In nearing the close of his five-day visit to Washington DC, Prime Minister Andrew Holness addressed the let’s connect virtual town hall Friday evening on the diplomatic relations with the us along with members of the diaspora.

Holness highlighted that the budgets for the past five years have not seen any new taxes, noting the GDP being at a moderate rate. He says finances have been a major area of struggle, but so far Jamaica’s debts are declining. Holness also noted the monetary policies are also evolving given the fluctuation of the inflation rate. He says Jamaica remains steadfast in keeping the vision 2030 mandate. In the meantime the prime minister sought to address the concern of crime and violence in the Jamaican society. Another question posed to PM Holness, was Jamaicans pursuing opportunities abroad.

This, the Prime Minister notes is not a bad thing, however giving back and maintaining a bilateral relationship with the island is imperative.
