While alluding to Jamaica’s Stock Market as being the best performing in the world, Prime Minister Andrew Holness says that there are great opportunities on the island for investors in Kenya and the wider African community. He made the statement while addressing the Ninth African, Caribbean and Pacific Summit in Nairobi, Kenya.
“Jamaica and the rest of the Caribbean – have very stable democracies with very stable economic policy. So this is a good environment for investors to consider putting their resources,” he noted.
Adding to this, he reminded those present that Jamaica is currently ranked sixth on the ease of starting business, and is now at a phase of development with a focus on infrastructure and energy.
“China has taken a specific interest. The European countries have taken a specific interest but we have not yet had an African country taking a very specific interest in very profitable infrastructure investment in Jamaica. I am using this opportunity to invite African investors to come and participate in our development,” Prime Minister Andrew Holness went further to say.
On the matter of energy, he shared how Jamaica has diversified its energy mix, is working on being energy efficient and reducing its carbon emissions.
“Technology is improving. What we need to do is move at the same pace as technology and make those investments. I implore African leaders to ensure that they have efficient electricity power generation and that it is environmentally friendly.”
