PNP General Secretary, Dr. Dayton Campbell says PM Andrew Holness is going down a slippery slope if he fails to speak out and remove Minister Daryl Vaz for conditions under which his US visa was allegedly revoked.
Opposition Senator, Peter Bunting in a statement has distanced himself from recent claims of his involvement in the revocation of Minister Vaz’s US visa in recent times. Bunting insists the issue of the revocation of visas falls solely within the purview of the United States Government.
He also notes that the claims surrounding the revocation are not merely to be tried in the court of public opinion but rather to be addressed forthrightly by the powers that be including Foreign Affairs Minister, Kamina Johnson Smith and Prime Minister Andrew Holness.
Meanwhile, Dr. Campbell says the recent claims by the former US ambassador to Jamaica, Donald Tapia that he played a role in why Vaz’s visa was revoked. He asserts it is in the Prime Minister’s best interest to remove Minister Vaz as a government Minister given the questionable nature of the allegations against the public figure.
The opposition members demand answers and a resignation as they say the blame game is merely a distraction from the real issue. Dr. Campbell also says the former diplomat appeared to be muddying the water. He says it is not important who asked for the investigation into Vaz.
