The People’s National Party (PNP) Leader Mark Golding along with several other party members, led a protest outside the Ministry of Finance on Monday, to speak out against the increase in oil prices, basic food items, and amenities.
Opposition Leader Golding is calling on the government to implement the plans introduced by the opposition to curtail oil prices. After a series of strikes and protests by public sector workers last week, The Opposition Leader and scores of PNP supporters on Monday executed a demonstration of their own to condemn the increase in inflation.
With placards and chants, the group marched to the Ministry of Finance in Kingston to deliver a letter to Finance Minister Dr. Nigel Clarke. Golding said the letter contains workable solutions to reduce the country’s fuel prices.
Although the leader’s focus was on gas prices, the Party’s supporters were bewailing price increase in basic food items and other amenities. Also present at the protest were PNP Chairman Dr. Dayton Campbell, Members of Parliament Dr. Angela Brown-Burke, and Phillip Paulwell.
Meanwhile, Political Commentator Sandre Rhoden describes the protest as counter-productive. Watch the full report below:
