Police Battling to Secure Evidence In 9-Year-Old Murder Case

The police have hit a major roadblock in their quest to uncover the circumstances surrounding the brutal murder of an autistic 9-year-old in St James nearly a year now. They say their efforts to gain access to the mother’s cell phone, which could be used as evidence, was barred by lawyers defending her.

Since the murder of nine-year-old Gabriel King in a reported carjacking in St James, January, commanding officer for the parish Senior Superintendent of police Vernon Ellis says investigators have been relentless in attempting to solve the case. However, he admits the investigations are not without challenges. SSP Ellis says investigators have employed a range of technological, forensic, and cyber strategies in attempting to make a breakthrough. Additionally, detectives made an application for a production order pursuant to section 21 of the Cyber-Crimes Act.

For the child’s mother to give permission for access to her cell phone – which has been in the police’s custody since January.
