Police Commissioner- Lockdowns Don’t Stop Crime

Police Commissioner Antony Anderson says lockdowns do not stop crime, as the country’s crime rate increased despite the special extended measures.

Speaking during a zoom media briefing Wednesday, September 15, the Commissioner notes efforts are ongoing to effect discipline among those in breach in the force while arresting the crime scourge.

The Commissioner says 4 people are also in custody in connection to the quadruple murder in Clarendon on Sunday, September 12. While there is promising news that major crimes have been reduced by 9.4%, murders have however increased by 10%. This has made many citizens concerned as to the cause for this increase despite the many days of lockdown and strict curfew hours.

Commissioner of Police, Major General Antony Anderson, says the lockdowns in no way contributed to the spike in murders. Opposition Spokesperson on National Security, Peter Bunting, at the crime scene of the quadruple murder in Clarendon took the time to question the reduced percentage of clear-up rate for murders.

Anderson, however, disputes this remark saying the Constabulary is well underway in getting to the year’s percentage objective.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner says regarding the updates on the case of Nzinga, the Jamaica Constabulary Force, (JCF) has handed over all the evidence to the Independent Commission of Investigations, (INDECOM) and the aspects of the investigation are currently being assessed externally.

Additionally, the police officers who were part of viral controversial TikTok videos are facing disciplinary charges.
