Under the reimposed State of Emergency (SOE) impacting several communities, in the St. Andrew South Police Division, the police carried out a search operation to find criminals, and deter unlawful activities.
The operation was welcomed by residents, who say they are in support of the police’s goal- to restore peace to the community. A series of joint operations conducted in Riverton in St. Andrew South, saw the police walking from door to door, entering residents’ homes, and checking for suspicious activity and criminals. Assistant Superintendent of Police Dwshney Salmon attached to the specialized operations branch says the team aims to target the most vicious gangs in Jamaica, noting St. Andrew south falls within that category with several gangs.
So far, he says persons have been taken into custody. The SOE now in effect in the area allows the police to conduct these operations, without a warrant to enter their homes. Watch the full report:
