A joint police-military operation was yesterday carried out at Bengal District at the border of Trelawny and St. Ann, in search of dangerous drugs, lottery scamming paraphernalia, arms and ammunition among others. Enforcing provisions under the road traffic act was also the order of the day. 

14 offensive weapons were seized during the operation and two persons arrested for having no driver’s license and being in possession of an offensive weapon. There was heavy police presence at the border of Trelawny and St. Ann, Friday as thorough searches were conducted while transport authority workers handled their role. Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of area 2, Calvin Allen says they are bent on reducing road fatalities and nabbing criminals.

Our news team witnessed the arrest of a man who had been transporting 2 foreign nationals who were later escorted to their destination by the police. His vehicle was also seized. 

And as farmers grapple with praedial larceny, ACP Allen says the police are making every effort to ensure their safety, maintaining that operations will continue.
