The Police attached to various arms of the constabulary have again nabbed several alleged members of the notorious Kings Valley Gang in Westmoreland.
This time the police are confident they have enough evidence to put the thugs behind bars. Last year the Chief of Justice freed several of the alleged gangsters because of the limited evidence by the police.
On May 6, a joint operation was conducted in the Western parish. The combined effort included officers from Counter-Terrorism and Organised Crime Investigation Branch (C-TOC), Specialized Operations, the Caribbean Search Center, and the Canine Division to ultimately arrest these individuals.
After a yearlong probe into the Kings Valley Gang; the operation has finally resulted in the police gathering concrete evidence to arrest members of the notorious Westmoreland gang.
In July of last year, the alleged gang members were found not guilty after chief Justice Bryan Sykes ruled that the prosecutors did not provide enough evidence to convict them.
However, DCP Fitz Bailey says with the seizure of three (3) cell phones last year by the department of corrections which were later handed over to the C-TOC, and an anti-gang investigation the police are now confident they have a strong case against the members.
The gang is alleged to be involved in carrying out crimes. Crimes such as murder, extortion, larceny of motor vehicles, among the long list of offenses.
These crimes were allegedly committed on the instruction of the leader, Derval Williams. He was remanded in custody in relation to charges of proposing murder and conspiracy to murder.
Joint operation
After the May 6 joint operation, 7 persons were arrested, four were charged with being part of a criminal organization. Three others are awaiting charges; two of which remain in custody.
DCP Bailey says all arrests were made without any violent confrontation. He says he is impressed by the professional and hardworking nature of members of the force; he says this is a job well done.
In the meantime, DCP Bailey is asking the following persons who have not yet been apprehended to visit the nearest police station. The names are Everett Store, Bigga Gray, Sniper, and Pumba. The men are said to be persons of interest at this time.
