A police officer has been arrested for attempted to smuggle marijuana into the horizon adult remand centre. CVM Live understands that the corporal was caught with the contraband at the checkpoint on Wednesday.
This is the third public servant to be arrested in a month for attempting to traffic an illegal substance at the facility.
Earlier in May, two correctional officers were arrested for the same thing.
Minister without portfolio in the Ministry of National Security who has oversight for the department of correctional services says current laws are being examined to bring harsher fines to those who smuggle contraband inside the penal institutions.
