Police Officers to Be Equipped With Body Cameras

There is a drive to modernize the Jamaica Constabulary Force (JCF), one way is with the use of body cameras, which is being introduced in law enforcement to improve the overall capabilities of police officers.

While the details of the roll-out of the devices are not clear, we spoke to a few current and former members of the JCF as well as members of the public who describe the body cameras as a good look for the force.

Commissioner of Police, Major General Antony Anderson says the procurement process has started for the purchase of thousands of cameras and other gadgets for the Jamaica Constabulary Force. The cameras are expected to provide both audio and video.

Several countries, the world over have been using cameras. They help to shine a light on police conduct.

Ex-Officer, Kevin Watson says the cameras are long overdue. Watson who was on the lottery scamming taskforce in Montego Bay, St. James says his team would often use handheld cameras when going on operations, like this one a few years ago.
