Police Ramp Up Efforts In Spanish Town After Double Murder

Two shooting deaths in Spanish Town almost twenty-four hours apart have raised concerns over rising tension in the area.

However, Deputy Superintendent of Police and Operations Officer for the St. Catherine North Police Division, Paul Bernard says while the shootings are a cause for concern there’s no need to fear.

There was much hustle and bustle in Spanish Town Square, St. Catherine despite two murders which took place a day apart.

According to Police reports, twenty-eight-year-old Kevon Lewis of Dela Vega City in St. Catherine was shot and killed by unknown assailants on Burke Road in the heart of Spanish Town on Monday.

Reports from the Spanish Town Police are that about 11:55 a.m., Lewis was standing along the road way when he was approached by men armed with guns. The men opened gunfire hitting him to the upper body. The Police were summoned and he was taken to Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Barely a day after, another man was shot and killed on Morrison street also in the town.

A vendor tells CVM LIVE that these incidents, which have become all to common turn away prospective customers.

Deputy Superintendent of Police and Operations Officer for the St. Catherine North Police Division, Paul Bernard says the Police are not sure if the murders are connected, given both men were Taxi Operators; however, he says they may be linked to extortion, which is the norm.

Nevertheless, DSP Bernard says more policing has been taking place since the recent murders.
