A prominent businessman and Justice of the Peace is calling for a constitutional amendment to prevent any member of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) from becoming Commissioner of Police.
He says this honor should be reserved for rank and file members of the police force. Speaking with members of the police force, Justice of the Peace, Glen Bromfield says no member of the Jamaica Defence Force (JDF) should be appointed as Commissioner of Police, an act that should be fixed in law.
The current Commissioner of Police, Antony Anderson served in the Jamaica Defence Force for 34 years before his appointment to the post in 2018. Bromfield says this may be seen as de-motivating and disrespectful to the police.
He went further to suggest that police are better trained to tackle issues of crime and violence in the Jamaican context.
