Port Royal Residents Going 5 Days without Electricity

Port Royal residents waiting on power restoration to their community and surrounding areas, as restoration have been further delayed due to underground cables that have been damaged. CVM Live understands that some JPS cables were damaged on Tuesday, November 9, by contractors working on behalf of the, (AAJ) which resulted in disruption of services.

On Saturday, November 13, the Port Royal residents led a peaceful protest as they say there has been little to no communication from the agencies involved. To add to that, they are without their regular water supply.

Ann-Marie, a disgruntled resident, took us to her home as she counted her losses due to the extended power outage.

Engineers from the Jamaica Public Service, (JPS) have been working to restore electricity but encountered unexpected challenges on Friday, November 12, which have caused even further delays.

CVM Live understands that during JPS’ excavation process a water main that supplies the community with the commodity was damaged. We were told that there has been coordinated provision of water, ice, and mobile charging facilities for the affected customers.

Ann-Marie adds that there has been little to no communication to the community from the agencies involved. The light company is pleading with the residents for continued patience.
