The NSWMA is again being called on to remedy the issue of infrequent garbage collection. The residents of Manchioneal, Portland are among the newest group to air their concerns, in hopes of attention residents are expressing immense frustration with a garbage pile up in their community, resulting from what they say is poor maintenance and improper dumping.
The residents say a skip was built to ensure waste is disposed of properly. However, they say persons have no choice but to dump their garbage around the skip as it isn’t emptied often. This has resulted in the creation of a mini dump in the community. Another resident says the garbage pile up is detrimental to her health. She’s calling for more frequent garbage collection, however CVM Live understands this may take time due to a shortage of garbage trucks.
Executive Director of the National Solid Waste Management Authority Audley Gordon told our news team several weeks ago that the company should be getting additional trucks later this year. Gordon is confident that the increase in fleet will improve garbage collection island -wide.
