There are several challenges being faced in Port Antonio. According to the Deputy Superintendent, failure of members of the public to comply with law enforcement instructions has led to issues with traffic management. One of the issues is lack of adequate parking spaces in the town.
It is a problem that has led to most drivers leaving their vehicles unattended in no park zones to return later to find a ticket. At other times, the vehicle might be towed away at the owner’s expense.
The Acting Divisional Commander for the Portland Police Division, Beresford Williams says the present pile up of traffic in the area and drivers leaving their vehicles in the roadways have become chaotic.
The Senior Cop says officers have been working with the Municipal Corporation to maintain order in the town. However, there has been improvement since the partnership with councillors was formed.
The Mayor of Port Antonio, Paul Thompson has taken note of the situation. He says the Municipal Corporation is working on locating additional parking spaces in the capital.
