Portmore Residents are calling on visitor and locals to be more cautious when using beaches in the area. This follows a recent crocodile attack involving two men at Waves Beach. Both men were bitten and left with severe injuries. The National Environment and Planning Agency (NEPA), says it will be erecting more signs warning the public to be more aware of areas with crocodile activity.
Our newsteam visited the Waves and Boardwalk beaches in Portmore on Friday. Tourists and locals were present and appeared to be far from concerned about the reports of crocodiles in the area. One resident, however, shared that the crocodiles usually venture out at night but will not attack any one unless they feel threatened. Another resident says locals are aware of crocodiles in the area and should not be in the water at night.
Another shared that his business has been slow since the attack but he is hoping that more persons will visit the beaches. In his words, they should not be afraid of the reptiles as they will not harm anyone. He is however hoping that the Government will intervene in the matter and ensure the safety and security of all who visit the location.
