Postal agents across Jamaica are appealing to the Government to give them the recognition they deserve, granting them eligibility for benefits such as pensions and grants.
President of the United Union of Jamaica, James Francis is warning the government if the agents’ demands are not met, they will be forced to cease operation at all postal agencies. With no benefits such as pension and health insurance, the postal agents continue their appeal to the government to review their working conditions.
Described as unfair treatment, the postal agents say they have reached their breaking point as they plead for recognition. Francis is warning the government if the situation is not resolved they will be forcing the postal agents’ hands to close all postal agencies.
He insists postal agents deserve equal treatment similar to that of a postal clerk. Meanwhile, Francis says the government has reminded them in the past that postal agents are not government employees, describing this motion as a slap in the face.
He says sustaining the workers would require them being eligible for benefits.
