Prime Minister Extends Curfew Measures Amid 4th Wave

The spike in the daily confirmed COVID-19 cases had persons anticipating tightened restrictions; however the Prime Minister has not made any changes to the current measures. This means the island-wide curfew will remain at 10 pm until 5 am until January 28.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says Jamaica is undoubtedly in the throes of a fourth wave of COVID-19 infections, therefore the 10 pm curfew and all other measures will remain in effect

Again, he sought to quell fears over another period of lockdown. The country on Monday recorded 1, 714 new infections, the highest daily number since the start of the pandemic. PM Holness reaffirms that the unvaccinated population remains at risk, stressing that while there are preliminary indications that the omicron variant may result in less severe illness than the delta variant, citizens cannot become complacent.

Roughly 21 per cent of the population is fully vaccinated and 26 per cent have received at least one dose of a vaccine.
