Prime Minister Holness Focused on Land Registration Drive

Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the government is intentionally working to increase land registry across the country; he emphasizes the need to put an end to the culture of informal settling. Holness was speaking at the National Land Agency’s Systematic Land Registration and Titling Ceremony in New Forest Manchester, where 20 persons received land titles. Approximately 40 percent of the lands in Jamaica are unregistered. 

Pushing to reduce the figure, Prime Minister Andrew Holness says the government is focused on prompting citizens to register their lands.  

Ironing out a common confusion, Holness says there is a stark difference between paying land taxes and having a title symbolizing land ownership. This, as he reminds land ownership is invaluable. Under the guise of transparency, the prime minister says a more formal system will yield better results.

He pushes ad hoc registration as one of the processes to support citizens’ land registration. Watch the report below:
