Prime Minister Responds to Social Media Request

A Manchester woman who used her social media platform to implore Prime Minister Andrew Holness to assist her in starting a business, had her wish granted on Independence Day.

During a visit to her community, the Prime Minister said the video was a lesson on how social media can be used in a positive way. He also took the time to address the right to freedom of expression.

Prime Minister Andrew Holness visited the budding entrepreneur, Nicola James, on Independence Day and presented her with some stock as well as a cheque to hit the ground running.

He has also assured her that he’ll return for a drink once her bar is opened.  Residents and members of the Christiana Police Youth Club were moved by the Prime Minister’s gesture.

During his visit to Nicola, Prime Minister Holness said he fully supports the right to freedom of speech. He noted that his job is to ensure that every citizen can express his/her views within the boundaries of the law.

Nicola’s plea came on the heels of a St. Ann man being taken into custody shortly after a video of him hurling insults at the Prime Minister went viral, following the revision of the COVID-19 measures.

His apprehension sparked outrage with citizens questioning the right to freedom of speech. The police however said Shaquille Higgins was the subject of an investigation into a case of larceny dwelling.

He was however later captured on video at what appeared to be a police station being instructed to apologize to Prime Minister Holness.
