Associations within the Private Sector have signaled their support for the deployment of COVID-19 vaccines across the island, by signing a memorandum of understanding on Tuesday, February 16, 2021 with the Ministry of Health and Wellness.
This agreement will allow for monetary contributions to be made to bolster the Ministry’s efforts in sourcing, procuring, and distributing vaccines to support the safe and full reopening of the country’s economy.
The partnership includes the Private Sector Organization of Jamaica, the Jamaica Manufacturers and Exporters’ Association and the Jamaica Chamber of Commerce.
The Health and Wellness Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton sought to assure the public that the agreement will not compromise the deployment process.
He adds that the Private Sector will in no way profit from this venture.
The Ministry will facilitate the procurement of vaccines on behalf of the private sector through the National Health Fund.
All parties have agreed that for the vaccination programme to be successful, a massive education and sensitization campaign is a must.
