Scores of protestors lined Duke Street Tuesday demanding MP George Wright’s removal as a parliamentary representative. Prime Minister Andrew Holness however sought to address the issue that has been on the minds of many Jamaicans since the assault allegations surfaced just over a week ago. The embattled Westmoreland Central MP was urged to apply for leave of absence from the parliament.
Outside the nation’s parliament, placard-bearing protestors chant, ‘Wright is wrong’ as they voice their disapproval for the Westmoreland Central Member, George Wright.
Inside the Lower House though Prime Minister and Party Leader, Andrew Holness sought to condemn acts of violence against women and girls. He says he was outraged at the incident and the video which allegedly involved the MP.
However, he notes his office holds him to certain processes and procedures.
He says politicians must heed their roles and obligations as policy makers to the people who they serve.
Prime Minister Holness says the public and the opposition must note despite their emotions the government is bounded by processes. He however notes there’s no need to make the matter a political one.
