The Public Safety and Traffic Enforcement arm of the Jamaica Constabulary Force has increased its efforts in targeting those who refuse to obey the road code. Senior Superintendent of Police, Everald Linton says one of these means is by increasing the issuing of tickets to the motorists. He discloses that since 2018, PSTEB officers have issued approximately 5% more tickets.
” So we have issued 20 ,000 more tickets than last year as part of our efforts to manage the roadways. We have conducted more speed check operations than the previous year ,” he says.
According to the senior cop, the police have also seized approximately 72 more motorcycles this year than 2018.
“We all know that motorcycles, especially in the Western end are creating havoc. We have increased our effort to police the roadways. However, it is not about enforcement only. Enforcement is just part of what we should be doing.”
However, Senior Superintendent Everald Linton, is appealing to motorists to drive with due care for pedestrians. He says bus and taxi associations must work with the police in shaping the transportation system in Jamaica.
“In anything that we do we need to train people so that they can understand what they are required to do.”
