Rastafarians of the Nyabighi Order gathered at the Scott’s Pass Estate in Clarendon to object to an eviction notice. The order gave the Rastafarians 7 days to vacate the property they have been occupying for over 30 years.
Members of the Nyabingi Order demonstrated their devastation upon receiving a notice of eviction that gave the occupants 7 days, between December 17 and 24 to vacate the premises. Caretaker of the estate says he feels belittled at the request executed allegedly by a member of the family of the late Bob Marley.
10 acres of the land was gifted to the order 33 years ago, in 1990, by bob marley’s widow rita. In 2014 the acreage was reduced to just 5.This matter is still being handled in court. With this latest attempt the order is crying out for justice as they are being asked to remove sacred fixtures including a tabernacle.
Rastafarian ancestors like Mortimer Planno, elder of the Nyabingi Order, Nyabinghi Priest Bongo Stephan Fraser and Elder Grandma Ivy are buried on the hallowed grounds. They say this edict, has now pushed a peaceful people to the edge of frustration.
