A recent study on abductions in Jamaica has left the lead researcher urging vigilance for the most targeted which are mainly females between 10 and 19 years.

Dr Paul Bourne’s urging parents, principals, and other stakeholders to play their part in preventing the rape, abduction, or death of another Jamaican child by employing data-driven strategies.
The study tracking data from the JCF for the 2021/2022 period found St Catherine was the prime parish for abductions accounting for more than a quarter of the incidents over the period. Some 93 per cent or 212 abductees over the period were females predominantly between 10 and 19 years old. Dr Bourne highlights other abduction trends locally.
Dr Paul Bourne- Acting Director, of Institutional Research, NCU, is urging parents to do more to safeguard against predators, which the researcher says are usually taxi operators. Meantime, Dr Bourne is encouraging schools to act by facilitating access to communication devices which could on the brighter side, save a child’s life if being abducted.
