Alley Bridge found in Southwest Clarendon is an overpass similar to the popular Flat Bridge structure, however, after rains of Tropical Storm Ida it has not stood up to the test.
Residents in the surrounding communities came out on Thursday, September 2, to protest that the bridge which connects several communities is in need of urgent repair. The cracks on the bridge give the unnerving feeling of what could happen when one crosses over.
Significant amounts of the bridge could still be seen in the river, evidence of the damage done by Ida. Additionally, the river has not only damaged the bridge but has destroyed the roads close by.
PNP representative for the area Luthon Cousins, says he is calling on his political counterpart to help alleviate this problem. In the meantime, residents are asking for even a temporary fix, as transportation is no longer available to take residents across the bridge to accommodate those running errands.
