Outraged residents in Portmore staged a protest on Thursday against the closure of a Jamaica Public Service office. The customers were told to visit the Spanish Town branch as the Portmore branch will be closed.
This customer says senior citizens are not inclined to the online system and as such the office is more convenient.
One resident also highlights that Portmore’s population surpasses most parishes.
Meanwhile, Portmore Mayor Leon Thomas says the city has shown growth and development. He notes housing projects have been completed and the power company has contractual agreements on a weekly basis.
Mayor Thomas says the JPS is to provide a mobile service to residents in Portmore communities. He says the past the closure of the office spewed chaos at the Spanish Town and Kingston offices.
The Mayor says businesses that occupy the mall pay fees, he is calling for a meeting with the power company, the municipality and residents.
