Residents Lament Violence in Mountain View

One man is dead, and two people including, a teenager are injured, after gunmen on foot fired several shots at them in Mountain View on Monday, August 30. The incident has heightened fear in the gritty east Kingston community, which has been rocked by gang violence in recent months.

Persons who gathered to enjoy a spirited game of dominoes were suddenly attacked by men who entered a section of their community and fired several rounds in the area. The persons who were shot, including a 15-year-old boy, were rushed to the Kingston Public Hospital, (KPH).

Meanwhile, in another section of the Mountain View community, another man was killed early on the morning of Tuesday, August 31. This has rocked the community as residents say he was a decent and hardworking individual. His father says this is the first time someone has died on his lane once considered peaceful.

Residents are fearful and are calling for heightened police presence in the community to lessen the tension. In the meantime, the Kingston east police say the ongoing feud in the Burgher Gully area has been a longstanding issue and noted that investigations are ongoing.
