Returning Residents Request Waiver for Goods Stuck At Wharf

Returning Residents requests waiver for goods stuck at Wharf for months – Returning residents are again pleading to the government to consider granting them a discount on their goods sitting at the Kingston Wharves. The items which were shipped prior to the lockdown in March have been accumulating hundreds of thousands of dollars in storage fees forcing the residents to reconsider clearing the goods. 

And having recently landed, they are trying to clear goods at customs however the exorbitant fees that have been accumulating since they are forcing them to consider abandoning their goods.

The President of the Returning Residents Association, Perceval Latouche says the Citizens were blindsided by the Coronavirus outbreak and the border closure which prevented them from coming home to Jamaica.

And having recently landed, they are trying to clear goods at Customs however the exorbitant fees that have been accumulating since they are forcing them to consider abandoning their goods.

Mr. Latouche is requesting at least a 50% discount for the residents to clear their belongings. Some items have reportedly been sitting at the facility for 6 months…the government closed its borders to all incoming passenger travel on March 21 and reopened on June 15. 

And while they were waiting to come home, their goods were accumulating storage fee costs. After 10 days, the daily fee is charged to the goods shipped until cleared. Latouche says residents have been charged up 1.2 million dollars. He says he has spoken to the Jamaica Customs Authority and is awaiting a response. CVM LIVE will continue to monitor this story.
