The St Ann Police are still struggling to reduce the spate of robberies in the parish since the start of the year. However, the Head of the St Ann Police, Senior Superintendent Calvin Small says there had been a noticeable decline in police personnel which is affecting their ability to response effectively.
” If you know what is happening with our organisation, we continue to have a high attrition rate almost on a daily or weekly basis.”
While shootings and home burglaries are on the decrease in the parish , the St Ann police have another problem on their hands.
The spate of robberies appear to be on the increase and the police from the 11 stations in the parish are attempting to address the issue. However, they are working on reducing the increase in robberies that is affecting citizens and business-owners in the parish.
“Robberies are up 64 this year, 47 last year. Breakins are down 80 last year versus 71 this year. Rapes and other sexual offences are down significantly. We are only seeing four recorded versus 21 last year.”
SSP Small , however, believes that some criminal activities are not reported by citizens. He is appealing for citizens to come forward and provide information.
“We do know that and so we police accordingly and try to dominate some spaces where we know we have issues,” he says.
