In response to an expression of deep concern by the Opposition Peoples National Party(PNP) last week, following the announcement by the National Water Commission (NWC) that water restrictions have been imposed in sections of Kingston and St. Andrew, Minister without portfolio in the Ministry of Economic Growth and Job Creation, Matthew Samuda, provided an update on efforts to bolster the island’s water capacities.
Opposition spokesperson on Agriculture and Water Lothan Cousins last week called on the government to implement a long-term sustainable solution to the recurring issue of water disruptions and low supply. And while speaking at a recent staging of the Caribbean Maritime University, Port Royal Lecture Series, Samuda, provided a response by way of highlighting the inroads that had been made to improve capacity. Samuda says current capital investment in water infrastructure is the highest it’s ever been.
