As the country celebrates Independence Day under COVID-19 restrictions, residents of Sandy Bay in Clarendon woke up to a community lockdown as Covid-19 cases increase in the community.
So far two (2) positive cases have been admitted to the May Pen hospital, while thirteen (13) persons are showing symptoms of the virus.
Another two cases have been confirmed in Rose-Well, a neighbouring community.
According to the Ministry of Health and Wellness, community surveillance of Sandy Bay has uncovered a lack of adherence to infection prevention and control measures.
A gathering was also observed at a church where persons were not wearing masks..several persons in the church are diagnosed with respiratory illnesses.
This is the second community in Clarendon to be put under quarantine, the other is Corn Piece Settlement.
Member of Parliament for South East Clarendon, Pearnel Charles Jr., says his team is now more knowledgeable on how to handle a community quarantine.
He says challenges have been identified and are being addressed.
Meanwhile, PNP caretaker for South East Clarendon, Patricia Duncan Sutherland says she is pleased with the response on the ground where various groups are tending to the needs of residents.
The community will be under quarantine for fourteen days, it will expire at 6 am on August 20.
