The Sandy Gully floor has collapsed causing a backlog of water that now threatens the safety of those who live in the community. The residents are calling for urgent intervention as lives and livelihoods are on the brink.
Residents of Waterhouse are calling on Prime Minister Andrew Holness to fix the Sandy Gully that has been pooling water, a problem they say has been unresolved for two months. Residents say for over two months the gully has had a breakaway that has not been fixed.
For many children in the community, it used to be a playground now it is a life-threatening risk. Other residents climb ladders and walk across the gully floor, using it as a bridge to get to the other side. The gully wall too is threatening to collapse which may see many homes being destroyed. Among their cries is the issues of mosquitos and the risk the gully plays in being a breeding site as the water is unable to flow freely.
The water has backed up garbage in the crevices along the breakage and become a breeding site for mosquitoes, they are imploring intervention before worse comes.
