Depression Amid Pandemic- The principal of one primary school in Savanna-La-Mar, Westmoreland says the COVID-19 pandemic is taking its toll on the mental health of students, who are eager to return to face-to-face learning. Being away from the physical classroom coupled with the death of their loved ones has sent them over the edge.
However, the educator says her school is committed to providing the necessary psychological support for its children.
The principal of the Savanna-La-Mar Primary School in Westmoreland, Megan Berry, says although only one case of a child being COVID-19 positive has been reported to the school so far, the number of children currently afflicted with the virus in the parish is worrisome.
Up to Wednesday, there had been 92 active infections. However, Berry notes that the mental health of her students is deteriorating, having been away from face-to-face learning for so long.
To make matters worse, some students have also been trying to come to terms with losing their parents and other loved ones to the virus.
