Students at the William Knibb High School in Trelawny are shaken after the killing of 16 year old Kamal Hall by a fellow student. Police were present on campus to search for and remove scissors, knife and any other weapons as the school’s principal strategies a long term solution to address issues of aggression among students. Anything that can stab was nabbed by police officers as they searched student’s bags on the William Knibb High School grounds, just a day after a student was fatally stabbed during a fight, reportedly over a ring. School was dismissed after the lunchtime incident on Monday.
As school resumed on Tuesday, Acting Principal Audrey Steel noted a significant drop in attendance and a more somber mood among students. Child Protection and Family Services Agency as well as the victims support unit of the ministry of justice also offered counseling to students which she welcomes. In addition to providing added security, the police cautioned students against carrying offensive weapons to school.
