The legislative framework to be strengthened: As crime and violence continue to plague the country the Minister of National Security, Dr. Horace Chang says stronger legislation will be created to combat criminality.
He explains that a number of acts will especially be targeted in the next thirty-six months.
Heads of Agencies and Senior Directors in the Security Ministry met on Friday to outline the 36 months security agenda.
Minister in charge of National Security Dr. Horace Chang says at the top of their agenda is to strengthen the Ministry’s legislative framework to achieve public safety, public order and a reduction in criminality.
The Security Minister says the Firearms Act will be treated with great urgency in an effort to stem gun violence across the country.
In September, the Supreme Court ruled that the detention of five men under states of public emergency was unconstitutional.
Dr. Chang says the Government is awaiting the written judgment for the High Court to determine the way forward.
Further amendments to the Anti-Gang legislation are also on the legislative agenda. There is no established date as to when the legislative framework will be completed or amended but the Minister says measures will be put in place to speed up the process.
