Debate on the new Firearms Act in the Senate concluded on Friday after the legislation was passed. Government Senator, Matthew Samuda, highlighted the importance of the Act that is expected to curb the country’s crime problem.
Senator Samuda, in his closing argument, says the bill had the support of both government and opposition members. In Samuda in highlighting the importance of the new legislation, He says it will seek to mitigate Jamaica’s gun crime epidemic. He says the sentencing over the past 30-plus years often does not match the crime of those who have been caught. As such, this bill he stresses will address that.
