The Earth Ambassadors’ Beach Cleanup this morning has been deemed a success, as a sizable number of volunteers were present as they do their part to rid the coast of waste. In honour of the upcoming Labour Day weekend, scores of volunteers on Saturday executed a beach cleanup at the Sirgarny Beach in Kingston. The initiative was organized by the earth ambassadors and was geared towards addressing pollution, and implementing strategies to curtail the crippling issue.
Minister without portfolio in the ministry of economic growth and job creation, Senator Matthew Samuda told CVM Live much still needs to be done to achieve Jamaica’s environmental goal.
He says the condition of the beach is proof that many Jamaicans do not understand the value of the ocean. However, he says that doesn’t take away from persons’ civic responsibility to dispose of their waste properly. Also present at the cleanup was popular entertainer Agent Sasco, who notes proactive action must be taken to achieve environmental sustainability. The organizers of the event say they also used the opportunity to collect the necessary data that will help in their future initiatives.
