Shaw Calls For More Public-Private Partnerships

The Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Audley Shaw is calling for more partnerships within the public and private sector. According to him, this will contribute to the economic well-being of the country.

Public private partnerships are not new to the Jamaican Government but the Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries, Audley Shaw, believes that more of these agreements will be beneficial to the economy.

“In order for Jamaica to achieve sustainable growth, industry leaders need to explore and develop strategic alliances. Organisations must be prepared to share resources to achieve a mutually beneficial objective, ” Shaw explains.

Shaw who was speaking at the Caribbean Assurance Brokers Limited Loyalty Programme launch says the ministry has been working on creating an enabling business environment.

“We have sought , ladies and gentlemen, to create capacity building programmes through various agencies of the Ministry to ensure that our micro, small and medium sized enterprises (MSMEs) are able to move their business to the next level. “

He believes that the efficient management of the sector along with public private partnerships will jump-start development and provide economic and social gains to the country.

“…Despite the maturity of the industry, there is still room for growth, and there are many avenues through which this growth can be facilitated. Once you build your business and refine your practice that growth will come,” Shaw states.
