Minister of Transport Robert Montague in 2019 said that by April 2020 it will be mandatory for Public Passenger Vehicles (PPV) to be fitted with GPS trackers, as part of the government’s electronic fleet management system.

But some PPV drivers have reservations. However the paranoia is evident among taxi drivers.

Commissioner of Police Major General Antony Anderson meanwhile says the police have increased their presence amid the mounting concern of robberies.

Would mandatory GPS trackers on PPV’s help to reduce robbery and abduction cases? And if so, how is the Ministry of Transport progressing in the implementation of the programme?

Attempts were made to contact Minister Montague.

CVM will continue to track this story.
