A Westmoreland family has been plunged into mourning after a six-year-old boy was shot and killed.
Reports from the Westmoreland Police are that on Monday the child was shot in his back while in his yard with other children allegedly by his 15-year-old cousin, who fled the scene.
Not much was disclosed by the police but the matter is currently under investigation.
Head of Operations for the Police Westmoreland Division, Deputy Superintendent of Police, Adrian Hamilton states that this incident brings into sharp focus the culture of an unquenchable thirst of persons resorting to violence.
Since the start of 2021, 17 juveniles have been charged for major crimes in the parish, ranging from abduction, rape, grievous sexual assault, assault at common law to illegal possession of firearm. DSP Hamilton says the force will continue its outreach programmes.
