As the nation grapples with economic challenges, citizens from the working class and low-income brackets have been demanding more affordable housing solutions from the government. Speaking at the handing over ceremony of a new home to a beneficiary who lost her house to fire sometime in 2018, Prime Minister Andrew Holness says while the government is focused on providing housing solutions for low-income earners, they are also aware of similar struggles plaguing the vulnerable.

While these groups are receiving their much-deserved aid, Prime Minister Holness says the government will put in place a program that will fairly address the needs of housing for every Jamaican. He reiterates the beneficiaries were chosen based on their needs, and not by any unfair advancement that would’ve made them more prioritized. Meanwhile, the overjoyed beneficiary Hyacinth Williams, says after four years without a suitable home, she is grateful she was chosen by the program to receive this reconstruction. Williams is one of 3 persons whose house was destroyed by fire and received aid from the social housing program.
