Social Intervention Programmes Effect On Crime

A unified effort is needed for social intervention and transformative programmes to be effective in crime-ridden communities in Jamaica. That’s according to the Minister of National Security, Dr Horace Chang while speaking at the signing of the Memorandum of Understanding between the Jamaica Social Investment Fund and Jamaica Constabulary Force.

There are currently several States of Public Emergency in effect in St James, St Catherine, Clarendon, the St Andrew South Division, Hanover. Westmoreland and Kingston East Police Division. According to the security, Dr Chang, there is a need for transformation in these areas to rid the country of crime. He was Speaking at the mou signing between the Jamaica Social Investment Fund and Jamaica Constabulary Force for the Jamaica Crime Observatory Enhancement Project.

Since its inception in 2011, the Jamaica Crime Observatory Integrated Crime and Violence Information Systems has been an instrument that brings together all primary data sources to establish valid and consistent crime and violence related statistics for each community. It has also supported and keep up to date, reliable data to promote transparency, security and safety in the national interest. Chang believes that information from this system along with enhanced security measures and social intervention can facilitate change in communities.
