SOE regulations vs the charter of rights and freedom: There continues to be strong opposition against lengthy detentions being made under the States of Public Emergency (SOE) across the island.
The most recent case has seen a Supreme Court judge declaring that ‘A man’s freedom cannot be arbitrarily taken away without a final determination by the court.” This followed a ruling of five men under the SOE, said to be unconstitutional.
