Soldiers In The National Reserve Booted From Camp

Soldiers in the National Reserve booted from Camp – A group of soldiers is calling on the Defense Minister and Prime Minister Andrew Holness to intervene in what is being described as unfair treatment meted out to officers in the Jamaica National Reserve. The officers say they are being made to stand out without regard for the policies and procedures, and are left with a limited time to seek an alternative.

The soldiers say they have nowhere else to turn and are seeking the intervention of Prime Minister Andrew Holness, the minister of defense after dozens of them were made to stand down, a term similar to a demotion in the national reserve. The soldiers claim that although they’ve failed requirement tests, the policy was not followed by being allowed a second chance. Instead, they were called to the South Camp Road HQ to receive a paper indicating their mandatory leave from work.

The officers say they feel betrayed after it was rumored back in summer that the battalion was being made to stand down….one that was put to rest by Major General Rocky Meade. He explains that the soldiers were not given any notice.  Moreover, the job market is not kind to reserves.
